Maxon Cinema 4D R13 Studio [MAC]

CINEMA 4D Studio is the very best that MAXON has to offer for professional 3D artists. If you want to create advanced 3D graphics but need a helping hand to ensure you create jaw-dropping graphics quickly and easily, then this is the choice for you.

As well as containing all of the features found in CINEMA 4D Prime, Visualize and Broadcast, CINEMA 4D Studio adds advanced character tools, hair, a physics engine and an unlimited clients network for rendering. The result is that CINEMA 4D Studio can tackle any project you throw at it with ease.

CINEMA 4D Studio's character tools make it easy to create character rigs and advanced character animations. Adding hair or fur to characters is fast and simple with a powerful suite of hair tools that you can grow, comb, style and animate. The physics engine makes it simple to perform complex collisions and interaction between objects, be it just a few or thousands. Network rendering allows you to take advantage of all computers on your network to help render your animations faster.

Despite being designed for advanced 3D, the extra tools found in CINEMA 4D Studio are still designed to be user-friendly and intuitive. Generating advanced 3D effects such as hair is surprisingly easy and fast, with CINEMA 4D doing much of the work for you. For example, hair will automatically swoosh and sway as you move your character around; and making thousands of objects collide with each other only takes a few mouse clicks to set up.

CINEMA 4D Studio lets you unleash your creativity and enjoy 3D without limits.

Modeling
CINEMA 4D Studio can import and export a variety of file formats, which lets you integrate it in almost any pipeline. The modeling toolset lets you work with parametric or polygonal objects, subsivision surfaces and all kinds of deformers and modifiers. CINEMA 4D's non-linear modeling lets you modify parametric objects at anytime and is lightweight and fast.

Materials and Textures
CINEMA 4D offers all standard and advanced options for creating the perfect surface for your models. Materials have 14 different channels and you can even customize channels for specific needs (e.g. game engines). Use images or movies as textures or advanced shaders such als Subsurface Scattering or Backlight. CINEMA 4D offers an industry-standard 3D painting toolset for high-end texturing.

Animation
When it comes to animation, CINEMA 4D Studio is a Jack of all trades. Of course it features all the standard animation tool you would expect from a high-end 3D package.
But CINEMA 4D Studio has so much more to offer: an advanced character animation toolset, all-new rigid and soft body dynamics, cloth simulation, event-based particle system, cloners and effectors and even natural Hair that waves in the wind.

Lighting and Rendering

CINEMA 4D Studio offers a wide variety of light and shadow types that can brighten up even the most challenging situations. And the render engine takes control of all available processor cores to get high-quality results as quickly as possible.
But the Studio version offers tons of advanced lighting tools that go even further. IES lights for real life light distribution, global illumination for indirect lighting, a physical sky simulation to light outdoor scenes realistically and much more.

Workflow and Customization
CINEMA 4D lets you configure the program layout and you can create your own scripts or plugins.

Advanced Character Animation

Character animators and riggers alike need easy-to-use and reliable tools to help them create life-like characters. CINEMA 4D Studio contains reliable and easy-to-use tools that make professional character animation much easier.

Pose Morph
Pose Morph allows the mixing of various data. You can morph parameters, user data, UVs or Vertex Maps. Pose Morph is a powerful tool to make a rigger's life easier and unleash the creativity of character animators.

Visual Selector
The Visual Selector lets you select your animation controllers with ease - a character rig's many controllers can aligned to a character's image set in the background. The rig's elements can be arranged with corresponding symbols by dragging and dropping them from the Object Manager. If an object is subsequently selected in the Visual Selector, it will be selected in the scene automatically.

Animator's life made easy
CINEMA 4D Studio comes with a lot of other advanced character animation tools to make the process of bringing a character to life easier. A Quaternion tag, Cappucino allows to record mouse movements as position data, Create Cluster tool helps to create groups of points, a new weight manager, dynamic IK, and so much more.

A Good HAIR Day for CINEMA 4D Users

Hair in CINEMA 4D Studio can be used for the creation of hair, fur and feathers.

Hair not only offers absolute realistic render quality. It does so with minimal memory usage. Even a computer with an average configuration can be used to render millions of hairs.

Add Hair and Style
Hair can be added to an entire object, a polygon selection or a texture. Many options are available for optimal distribution of hair on a given surface. Hair offers you every tool you need to style your character's hair - Brush, Comb, Curl, Cut, Push, Straightened, even hair extensions are included.

HAIR Materials
Real fur and hair have their very own individual properties and CINEMA 4D offers for hair its very own material with 18 material channels. This is where you decide if your hair should look freshly shampooed, greasy, red, blond, brown or black. Make your hair frizzy or straight, give it split ends, make it silky or turn it into clumpy fur.

Many of these properties can also be adjusted using a texture. You can even create a multi-colored tiger fur.

Hair Dynamics
CINEMA 4D offers realistic dynamics effects for the hair. Properties like stiffness, collisions or weight can be assigned. Forces such as gravity, wind or turbulence can also be made to affect the hair and create impressive effects.

New Features in CINEMA 4D Studio R13

The new Release 13 features a brand new Physical Camera & Physical Renderer, a character auto rigger and a walkcycle generator, many improvements and enhancements to the user interface and workflow, enhanced shaders, improved import functionality, stereoscopic rendering, new Picture Viewer features, a reworked Timeline and much more, CINEMA 4D Studio R13 offers 3D artists everything they need.

Physical Render Engine

Render with ultimate realism using the new Physical Render Engine in CINEMA 4D Release 13. Use real camera settings like shutter speed and aperture to view the Project through the lens - with 3D depth of field, motion blur and more.

Render advanced effects like blurry reflections, Area shadows and Ambient Occlusion along with accurate depth of field and motion blur. The Physical Renderer’s shared image sampler samples the Project just once and shares the result between all these effects, reducing the incremental time required to render each effect and guaranteeing accurate results as the effect combine with one another.

More Photo-Realism
Achieve an even more photo-realistic look with the new, physically correct depth of field effect, which also lets you render objects that lie behind transparent surfaces. The new Physical Renderer now renders these objects directly in the image and not as a post effect.

Accurate 3D Motion Blur
Produce accurate 3D motion blur based on real optical parameters. Rotational motion is blurred properly because the full 3D animation data is used, and because the blur is produced at render time rather than as a post effect, it interacts properly with shadows, transparency and other Project elements.

Physical Camera
Imitate a still or movie camera using focal length, f-stop and shutter speed or angle to dial in the depth of field and motion blur. You can optionally define the ISO or Gain, which combines with other camera settings to determine the exposure of the image. Simulate other flaws of real-life cameras, like lens distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration for the ultimate photorealism.

Stereoscopy

Create eye-popping stereo 3D visuals using the complete stereoscopic workflow in CINEMA 4D Release 13. Easily convert existing projects or create new stereo scenes using a few simple camera settings, and preview the stereo effect within the Viewport. Render the merged image or individual channels and preview the stereo effect within CINEMA 4D’s Picture Viewer.

Stereo Camera and Rendering
A few simple settings convert any CINEMA 4D camera into a stereo rig. Simply enable one of the stereo modes, define the eye-separation and convergence, and choose between parallel, off-axis, on-axis or radial placement. Safe regions can be defined manually or defined automatically by CINEMA 4D.

Real-time Stereo Display
Preview stereo effects in real-time by enabling the Stereoscopic mode for any view. Stereo previews can be displayed in Anaglyph, Side-by-Side, Interlaced or Active Shutter mode for compatibility with a variety of 3D monitors, projectors and glasses.

More New Stuff

Many minor improvements and new functions make working with CINEMA 4D R13 easier when rendering. For example, the new Far Clipping camera parameter: Use it to define a clipping plane behind which Project elements will be hidden; or the new anti-aliasing filter options that give you ultimate control over smoothing in your renderings; or the new physically correct Fresnel effect, which adds a new dimension when rendering reflections!

New Character Tools

New character tools in CINEMA 4D R13 allow you to focus on the artistry of animation, eliminating the need to understand complex rigging techniques.

The New Character Object
The Character object allows you to easily build a rig for any character, based on expertly crafted preset templates for bipeds, quadrupeds, fish and more. Automatic mirroring allows you to build and adjust the rig symmetrically. Once you’ve adjusted the rig to your character, simply drag the mesh into the Character object to automatically weight and bind the mesh to the rig. After completing this simple process, you’ll have easy access to controllers in the Character object, and your character is ready to come to life.

Walk Cycles with CMotion
Your characters will really strut their stuff with CMotion, a parametric walk system. With just a few clicks you can apply a preset walk to your Character object rig. Apply a Spline curve to virtually any parameter to define the motion. Characters can walk the line or follow the path of a Spline object automatically, staying aligned to the direction of travel and even interacting with the underlying surface. Custom step objects provide even further control so that every footstep is a step in the right direction.

Character Component
The Character Component can be used by technical directors to define objects or hierarchies of a rig as components. Those components then can be packed into a template and be used by artists to easily create their objects using the Character object. The technical director can use all the power of CINEMA 4D's tools, including Python scripts, to define those components.

You don't do character animations? Then use the Character Component to build templates for road systems, pipeline creators, etc. Use your creativity to decide what to build with the powerful tool.

Muscle Object & MSkin Deformer
The new Muscle object, in conjunction with the new MSkin Deformer, can be used to achive very natural deformations of your mesh. Especially the newly added dynamics functionality adds more realism to the movement of muscles. You will have full control over the shape of the muscle in all of its states.

Rotation Order and Gimballing Rotation Axis
Easily detect and correct Gimbal lock with the new Gimballing Rotation axis mode and user-defined rotation order. The Gimballing axis adjusts the orientation of individual rotation bands to display the actual plane of rotation. You can often avoid Gimbal lock by specifying the rotation order individually for each object prior to animating. Simply cycle between each of the rotation order options and use the Gimballing display to see how they affect the rotation.

Finely-Tuned F-Curves
Precisely edit Function curves with new options for manipulating keyframe tangents. A new option is available for locking the visual angle between tangents, as well as commands for matching the length or angle of the left and right tangents. You can now reset the tangent length and angle more quickly via a command rather than a toggle. Manipulating F-Curves is also more intuitive since the Viewport now interactively updates to show the result of the change.

Better Handling of Timeline Markers
Organize your animation more efficiently in R13 thanks to enhancements to Timeline markers. Each marker now includes a Notes field that can include explanatory text and you can quickly re-name markers by double-clicking them in the Timeline. Even better, multiple markers can now be selected and manipulated as a group, and markers can be manipulated in C++ plug-ins or Python scripts.

Colored Animation Path
Visualize the movement of selected objects more easily using colored animation paths. You can now easily distinguish between the animation paths of multiple selected objects because the layer color of the track or object is automatically applied to the path display within the view.

Optimized Modeling Workflow

CINEMA 4D R13 contains numerous tweaks and improvements for modeling. Whether you want to modify a row of points of a particular polygon, for example to achieve a Matrix extrude effect, or if you want to take advantage of the optimized workflow to work faster using hotkeys, you'll soon wonder how you ever got along without these new features!

Clone and Extrude Easily
Easily copy selected objects by simply holding the Cmd/Ctrl key as you drag out a duplicate. Pressing Cmd/Ctrl while dragging polygons and edges allows you to quickly perform an extrusion. Shift+dragging at any time while moving elements within the view allows you to constrain movement to a single axis.

Advanced Selecting Tools
New features for selecting make modeling in CINEMA 4D even easier. Simply double-click on any single edge to select a loop of connected edges. Edge loops are essential for use in modeling, Spline creation or joint placement. With a mesh containing several disconnected polygon groups you can quickly select each group by simply double-clicking on any single polygon within the given group.

Optimized HyperNURBS Weighting
The HyperNURBS object features a new, faster subdivision surface algorithm that offers better weighting. You can now get sharp but smooth creases with clean, continuous transitions between individually weighting points, edges and polygons. The HyperNURBS object now handles N-Gons better, correctly subdividing around holes and subdividing the UV coordinates.

Axis Toggle
Axis modification now works as a toggle and allows you to quickly snap the object axis in Object and Model modes, or the modeling axis in Component modes to any point, edge or polygon. This makes it easy to define the origin for rotate and scale operations  and works with improved snapping to more accurately position elements.

Convert Polygon Groups to Objects
Easily expand disconnected polygon groups into separate objects with this new command in Release 13. This command works specifically on polygon objects and places each sub-object as a Child of the original, so you can quickly split models that are imported as a single connected object.

Auto Tweak Elements
In Release 13 you can quickly tweak individual objects or components without selecting them first. Tweaking is now enabled automatically whenever there is no selection, eliminating the need for separate modes. Simply click and drag on any element to start moving it with ease. A single click and drag is all that’s necessary to select and move components and fine-tune your scene.

Snap-Happy
With enhanced axis snapping in Release 13 you can quickly position objects and components in relation to other elements within the scene. Cmd/Ctrl+right+click on an axis handle lets you reposition that handle and snap it to any surface. Once you begin moving, scaling or rotating the selected elements, an infinite axis guide will appear that allows you to use virtually any element as a guide for snapping.

Variable-Speed Scaling
Resize elements precisely thanks to variable-speed scaling in R13. You can click different areas of the Scale tool’s axis stem to define the speed. Click near the object’s origin to scale quickly, or further away for more precise scaling. If you click the axis handle at the end of the stem, the scaling directly relates to the movement of the mouse.

ClothNURBS Extrusion

Utilize the new Parallel option in Cloth NURBS to maintain right angles while adding thickness. Re-purposing this powerful tool allows you to maintain parametric flexibility while adding dimension to mechanical meshes.

New Subsurface Scattering

Render skin, stone and other organic surfaces with accuracy and artistry using the all new Subsurface Scattering Shader in Release 13. The index of refraction, Fresnel properties and GI calculation of the scene all work together to create realistic shading, while a variety of presets for common materials help quickly create shaders.

Terrain Mask Shader
Simulate snow-capped mountains and aged surfaces with the new Terrain Mask Shader, which generates a mask based on the altitude or slope of the object. Use this mask on its own by modifying the gradient colors, or apply it as part of a Layer shader or Alpha channel in conjunction with other textures. There are a multitude of uses - you can even use the mask to restrict the visibility of clones via a Shader Effector.

Brick Shader Enhancements
Create realistic brick and tile surfaces with the enhanced Brick Shader in R13. You can now define textures for the primary color, alternate color and grout areas, achieving greater realism and much greater flexibility. You can apply a texture to the dirt layer as well to simulate effects such as chipped paint and graffiti. Add the new Rain option to smear the texture vertically and further erode the surface.

Enhanced MoGraph Multi-Shader
Textures clone more creatively with the enhanced MoGraph Multi-Shader, which offers an optimized interface for managing shader lists and adding a large number of images to the shader. Use the new Average Color modes to sample individual bitmaps and quickly generate mosaics by matching the color of bitmaps to clones.

Things Get Even Easier

Professionals and novices alike will value the new, well-structured workflow and interface functionality in CINEMA 4D R13. Complete your projects faster and more effectively thanks to CINEMA 4D R13's numerous improvements and optimized workflow.

Whether with the optimized camera behavior in the 3D Viewport – which eases orientation and movement through the Project – or the out-of-view indicator, which shows you the direction in which a selected object lies outside of the current view.

The user interface has also received a comprehensive makeover, ranging from tabs that can be arranged vertically, commands that can be executed with preset parameters, and Project files with preview images to font selection with matching previews and the ability to assign names to Viewports.

Enhanced Picture Viewer
Within the Picture Viewer you can quickly view the image at actual size by double-clicking anywhere over the image area. If the image is already actual size, double-clicking will resize the image to fit within the Picture Viewer window.
Furthermore you can now easily define a different background color for the image area of the Picture Viewer, allowing you to see renders against a black, white or custom colors.

Stereoscopy
After an image has been rendered using stereoscopic properties, a wide range of functions and options will be available in the Picture Viewer for saving the stereoscopic image. You even have the option of interactively combining the left and right images.

Compare Animations in Picture Viewer
You can now take advantage of both the Picture Viewer’s animation playback and image comparison features at the same time to compare two separate animations. Simply link the animation playback of the A and B images and scrub or begin playback.

A Word About Graphics Cards
In short, CINEMA 4D and BodyPaint 3D run on any OpenGL-capable graphics card (which includes the vast majority available in the past 10 years). We do however strongly recommend using a dedicated 3D graphics card with a chipset from AMD or NVIDIA. Currently, powerful graphics chips are also available on mid-range notebooks.
Always make sure to use the latest drivers (no beta versions), certified for your operating system. Newer drivers are usually faster and more stable.
If you're looking for speed comparisons, conduct a search for CINEBENCH scores on the internet.
Disclaimer: MAXON cannot be held liable for the compatibility of specific graphics cards with the Enhanced OpenGL mode. Due to the amount of possible combinations of graphic chipsets, operating systems and driver revisions, it is impossible to guarantee the operation on all systems. Also, technical specifications in MAXON products are subject to change. Please use the most current demo version of CINEMA 4D oder BodyPaint 3D to test the compatibilty on a specific system.
